The problem
Most recipe apps start with the dish. Home cooks usually start with whatever is already in the fridge.
The goal
Develop a recipe app from concept to high-fidelity mockups, with an intuitive and enjoyable user experience.
My role
I designed the logo, app icon, and interface, through to the final mockups.
Pitch 1
Logo and look
I started with the name and built the brand around it: a terracotta pot filled with simple illustrated ingredients, with a warm, rounded serif wordmark. Earthy greens, clay, and cream carry through the whole app, and the pot doubles as the app icon.
The home screen gets straight to the point, asking what’s in your pantry, with popular recipes just below.

Pitch 2
Search by ingredients
The core feature lets people add the ingredients they already have and get recipes that use them, grouped by type. Each recipe page keeps the essentials easy to scan: rating, prep and cook time, servings, ingredients, and step-by-step directions.
Search by ingredientsRecipe page
Pitch 3
Explore and filter
For browsing, an explore page sorts recipes by category, and a slide-out filter narrows them by meal type or diet. A heart on every recipe saves it to favorites, one tap away in the bottom navigation.

What I learned
The best feature is the one people already wish existed.
