UXR Talk. with Emi Caulder

When conducting UX research studies and writing subsequent case studies, how can we use listening to stories as a research tactic and most effectively share the stories of our processes and results with the rest of the UX field?

Research question:

After reviewing the literature on storytelling and UX, as well as interviewing two experienced UX professionals from Santa Clara University and Google, I built a blog with posts presenting my findings.

Publish digital blog posts to share my insights on storytelling and UX.

Objective

Issue 158: User Experience and Storytelling. UXRTalk. with Emi Caulder. https://ecaulder0.wixsite.com/my-site.

Blog Posts

I synthesized insights from both the existing literature and in-depth interviews I conducted with UX experts. Each post is meticulously written to explore how listening to stories can enhance UX research studies and the communication of findings. I detailed methods for incorporating storytelling as a research tactic and provided practical advice on effectively sharing these narratives within the UX community, aiming to bridge the gap between research processes and real-world application.

Overall Conclusions

Storytelling is a valuable skill for user experience professionals, aiding in persuading executives and sharing research processes effectively with peers.

Reconsidering our reliance on heuristic evaluation in favor of embracing narratives could lead to more informed research directions.

Stories complement quantitative data by providing context, humanizing issues, and enhancing memorability, unlike the potentially forgettable nature of numbers.
